Let’s a Go To The Movies!

With games, tv shows, and merchandise spanning over 42 years, most people in the world have heard of Mario one way or another. Nintendo, the company behind Mario, has finally decided to delve into a world Mario has yet to explore: the big screen. I saw the Mario movie and it was amazing. I went into it with the bar set low, based on the subpar voice acting I’d heard in the trailers. However, the movie blew me away with how dynamic and fun it was. The trailers did not do the movie justice. During my watching, I never had any gripes about the characters’ voices.

I grew up playing Mario games with my family. We would play Mario Kart and Super Mario Bros all the time on our Wii. Even to this day, we still play a heated game of Mario Party every now and then. Watching the movie was like watching my childhood play out in front of me. Anyone who has played a Mario game will most likely enjoy this movie. That being said, someone who has never heard of Mario in their life would still have a lot of fun. The plot is pretty simple to follow, filled with fun characters, thrilling conflict, and brotherly love.

My favorite part of the movie was probably the same as anyone else who had seen it: the new original song created by Jack Black, “Peaches.” In the movie, Bowser, who is voiced by Jack Black, sings the song to express his love for his unrequited crush, Princess Peach. It’s not surprising that Jack Black was able to create such a masterpiece. He is a member of the band Tenacious D, so he has prior songwriting and singing experience.

The only problem I had with the movie was the ending. I won’t go into detail to avoid spoilers, but it felt a little rushed and left me with a few unanswered questions. Hopefully, my questions will be answered in the next Mario movie, which has yet to be announced but is bound to be released based on how well the first one did at the box office.

Overall, I was surprised by how much I liked this movie. I saw it twice, but I would gladly watch it again. With ample references to both new and old Mario media, it’s a movie for every generation of Mario enjoyers.
