Elkhorn High School is an amazing school known for their academic awards, exceptional students, and great teachers. This might be the reason eleven teachers joined us this year.
Allison Beck, an English teacher at Elkhorn High, was here for three years, then left to take care of her family. She is joining us again this year, and it will be her fourth year in the Elkhorn district. “It was never a question of why i wanted to come back, it was when.” Beck said, “This is a one of a kind building and I love it so much.”
She was elated to come back after a year break from teaching. “It’s difficult to put into words how I like the students and teachers here.” Beck said. She also explained how much the students and staff in this district have effected her. It’s the people she works with on a daily that really have an impact. “I’ve just had such wonderful experiences teaching, and growing myself, learning from them, and you know, watching them as they blossom in life.”
A teacher that also joined us this year, Annie Catania, teaches physical education. One of her students, Savannah Bishop said, “She is a very fun teacher who makes activities in the class fun and educational, so it’s enjoyable for everyone.” All of her students seem to enjoy her teaching methods, which have been described as energetic and fun.
She also seems to enjoy her teaching job here at Elkhorn High School, which was her first pick. “My students have kept me busy, and I learn just as much from them as they do from me.” Catania said.
Both of her parents were teachers, and her father teaches P.E., like her. Students at UNO, where she went to college, complained about their experiences in P.E. growing up, so that motivated her to become a physical education teacher. “I want to show kids that there are a variety of ways to stay physically active and healthy after they graduate high school.” Catania said.
Catania is also a cross country coach for the school. In high school and college she ran both track and cross country, where she ran 6k’s, or around 3.7 miles. She also enjoys coaching here a lot. Catania said, “I have so much fun being a coach because I get to help kids fall in love with a sport that has given me so many opportunities to grow as a person and as an athlete.”
New teachers will join Elkhorn Public Schools each year, especially with Elkhorn North High School opening in 2020. Elkhorn High School is one of the top schools in the state for academics, and also known for great athletes. Teachers are proud to teach here, and it’s an amazing place to be taught.
