Morgan Wallen released his second album, Dangerous: The Double Album.
On January 8, 2021, Morgan Wallen released his highly anticipated album, Dangerous: The Double Album. This album features 30 songs, and 32 on the deluxe version. With singles like “This Bar” and “Sand in my Boots”, Dangerous features songs that fans have heard from prior years, as well as multiple brand new songs. The album has also topped at number one on the Billboard album chart and has broken a country streaming record at 240 million streams, which is the biggest weekly tally for a country album.The album starts off with the song “Sand in my Boots”, a slower, heavy-hearted piano record. It isn’t a stereotypical Morgan Wallen song, so it definitely threw fans for a loop, however it is currently one of the most popular songs on the album.
“Wasted on You” is a bitter, breakup song, and makes you want to belt it in your car at the top of your lungs to your non-existent significant other who broke your heart.
“Somebody’s Problem” and “More Surprised than Me” brighten the album up from the heartbreak feeling, and include lots of fun instruments and melodies.
However “865,” “Warning,” and “Neon Eyes,” shift the album right back to the darker mood, but are still written wonderfully, and “Neon Eyes” is one of my personal favorites.
“Outlaw” featuring Ben Burgess and “Only Thing That’s Gone” featuring Chris Stapelton both have great melodies but don’t match the rest of the album in my opinion. The artists sound similar so it is hard to differentiate between the two.
“Whiskey’d My Way”, “Wonderin’ Bout the Wind” and “Your Bartender” all have a smooth, flowing tune to them, but are also a bit more somber compared to some of the other songs.
The first part of the album ends with “Cover Me Up”, “7 Summers”, and “More than My Hometown”, three songs fans have already heard, but are strong in wrapping up the first section of the album.
The second part of this album starts with “Still Goin’ Down” and “Rednecks, Red Letters, Red Dirt”, which are typical country songs, nothing truly special, but they have a good beat to them.
“Dangerous” is a fun, quick-paced, summer song. Similar to that, “Blame It on Me” is more of a pop country sounding song, but is one of my favorites, Wallen sounds more comfortable on this track and the lyrics are super passive-aggressive and shade-throwing.
“Somethin’ Country,” “Beer Don’t,” “Whatcha Think of Country Now,” and “Need A Boat” are all upbeat, summer-sounding songs, and really are the definition of stereotypical country music that talk about wanting to fish, hunt, and drink.
“Country A$$ Sh*t” is a super fun party song, but completely contradicts “This Bar” which is an incredible song on its own but doesn’t belong where it is placed on this album.
“Me on Whiskey” is another romantic, sleazy song with an incredible hook.
“Silverado for Sale” has a sweet story and has a great chorus, almost giving me tears.
“Heartless, the Wallen Version” is a song fans have already heard, but it has a more acoustic feel than the first version.
“Livin’ the Dream” is an honest song, and conveys a lonely feeling, and helps “Quittin’ Time” close the album by saying how everything has to come to an end.
Overall, even if you don’t traditionally like country music, give this album a listen, as it isn’t necessarily a traditional country music album. It has hints of R&B as well as some trap-inspired tunes, which give it a lot of variety and depth. This album deserves all the attention it is getting and is respectfully one of the best albums Morgan Wallen has put out so far.
