Livening Up The Library

For a few months now, the monotone, bland ceiling tiles in the library have been slowly replaced with eye-catching works of art. For the librarian, Leigh Geis, this transformation is nothing new.

“I used to do this at Valley View, and when I got here, I thought the space needed some color,” Geis said.

After noticing one of her tech team students was really artistically talented, Geis knew she had to start asking students about their interest in painting the ceiling.

“I walk out in the hallway and there’s pictures on the wall by the art rooms,” Geis said. “But there’s so many more kids that have that talent that don’t take art.”

The librarian thinks that every tile has its own unique features, and she encourages those who feel like they aren’t the best artists to still contribute.

Geis hopes to eventually have the whole ceiling fully covered by art. Not only does it brighten the library, but this tradition also allows students to leave their mark on the high school.

“I hope this makes the library more inviting,” Geis said. “And I hope kids appreciate what other students are able to do.”
