Billie Eilish: Not A One Album Wonder

Billie Eilish hits home yet again with her new album, Happier than Ever. As the artist who created 2019s number one album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?,” Eilish’s new release proves she is not a one-hit-wonder. Released July 30th, Happier was the most pre-added album with over a million saves. With brother and producer Finneass O’Connel on board for this second album, Eilish is on her way to top the charts.

As a follow-up to her first hit album, she released Happier than Ever which was about Billie’s entrance to music. How she dealt with how nasty the pop genre can be. Not only from the pop genre aficionados but from the fans who body-shamed her. She sang about this in her song “Over Heated”. Clapping back at her haters and body shamers with the lyrics “Can’t be defeated”. Other songs like “Getting Older” depict Billie hitting a point in her life where she is indeed getting older. She sings “things once enjoyed, just keep me employed now,” essentially nagging at the fact that she will soon get bored of the hobbies she liked.

For the most part, the album itself was nice to listen to, but it is overhyped. Especially considering her last album in 2019 was remarkable. Songs like “Not My Responsibility” and “NDA” were awkward in the album. “Not My Responsibility” was a good message, but placed in an unattractive song form. “NDA” started with a distorted beat that left me confused and scared for Billie, nor did I get a central message from this song like the rest of the songs in her album. Don’t ask me what the acronym NDA stands for either, cause I wouldn’t know.

Considering that this 19-year-old started with “Ocean Eyes” at the age of 14, she is going somewhere. Happier Than Ever has so far had 50 million streams and 23 thousand album copies sold, you could say Billie is happier than ever for this moment.
