For hour increments, students congregated in room C206 to be part of an annual blanket service project. Members of National Honors Society in total dedicated a cumulative of 66 service hours towards making over 30 for children in need.
“We’re a philanthropic organization and want something that we can provide to the community. Eventually we’ll give these blankets to nursing homes and children wards in hospitals,” sponsor Allison Beck said.
For these students this project is an opportunity to express their creative side and have a greater sense of meaning.
“It gives me a sense of accomplishment contributing to the community. It just makes you feel good knowing that you’re helping someone out and giving back,” junior Anna Janvrin said.
With this project being so extensive it really gives members the chance to build good team working skills on top of building bonds with their fellow NHS acquaintances. With the addition of new members and Juniors this year, the project helped allow new friendships to be made.
One member, senior Lourdes Lopez, helped create two of the blankets.
“I went with my friends Celia and Kaelie and we had a good time knowing that we were making a blanket for someone who could really use the comfort,” Lopez said. “With there being juniors this year this project really helped incorporate them and gave me a chance to meet new people in that grade.”
