The EMC’s six team alliance will soon be increasing to eight come the fall of 2022, starting with the Lincoln Northwest Falcons and in the consecutive year with Standing Bear High School.
An official press release message was sent out to coaches and sponsors of the EMC earlier this morning, stating, “Member schools include; Bennington, Blair, Elkhorn High School, Elkhorn North, Lincoln Northwest, Standing Bear, Norris, and Waverly.”
The two schools started construction after a $290 million bond issue to build the two schools that was approved in May of this year. This is the first time there has ever been a Lincoln Public Schools establishment that has competed in EMC athletics.
Lincoln Northwest has already completed the process of designating a new team mascot as they will be called the Falcons and will bear the colors of purple, white, and black. The inspiration behind the mascot was due to the proximity of the school to Lincoln’s Air Force Base.
Standing Bear is yet to decide on a mascot and has plenty of time to decide since the school is not set to open until the Fall of 2023.
These replacements will make up for the departure of Gretna, Nebraska City and Plattsmouth High Schools a few years ago. Another previous part of the EMC was Elkhorn South, who now competes in the Metro Conference with large Class A schools.
The conference, which was founded in 1980, will continue its legacy with the addition of two new Lincoln schools that have the prospect of adding more tension than is already present in the EMC.
