Let’s Talk About Bruno

Movies meant for children aren’t only enjoyed by their target audience. Disney’s Encanto has received a lot of attention and love across many social media platforms, with most of this support coming from teenagers.

Encanto takes place in the mid-1900s in Colombia following the Madrigals, a family whose members are all enchanted with a unique gift, except Mirabel. Her lack of gifts leads her family, mostly her Abuela, to exclude her from family events, including family pictures. During one of the gift ceremonies, Mirabel witnessed the house walls cracking. The flame that keeps the family magic alive flickered and was about to burn out. Throughout the movie, Mirabel has to stop what is causing damage to the magic.

Stephanie Beatriz, the voice actor of Mirabel Madrigal, the main character, did a fantastic job in this film. In the beginning, she sings “The Family Madrigal,” which is about her family and their gifts. Her voice fits her part marvelously. Beatriz is not the only one in the cast who has a talent for singing; Rhenzy Feliz, the voice actor of Mirabel’s younger cousin Camilo, did not get a lot of screen time, but when he was on screen, he sure made it count. In the song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” Camilo’s solo was absolutely amazing. The way he makes his voice raspy and melodic at points adds depth to the song that is extremely refreshing

The best part of this movie is the soundtrack. The songs in Disney’s Encanto were written by Lin Manuel Miranda, most famous for his Broadway musical Hamilton. The songs in this movie are pleasing to the ears if you enjoy Broadway musicals or just musicals in general.

Kids would enjoy this movie, as they are the target audience, but teenagers also seem to enjoy this movie a lot. I would not recommend this movie to people who do not like musicals because there are a lot of songs that are very similar to Broadway music. This movie is rated PG, but could be enjoyed by any age group.

I rate this movie 9 Lin Manuel Miranda hats out of 10.
