To end off the 2022-2023 school year, Elkhorn High School will be premiering their new play: Nevermore. This year’s play consists of the last 3 days of Edgar Allen Poe’s life and what ensued throughout his final moments. The performances for Nevermore will be held after school at 7:30 PM from May 4th to May 6th and 2:00 PM on May 7th. English teacher Jeff Garst, director of the play Nevermore, has thoroughly prepared for the production as this is a play he has partaken in before.
“It’s a play that I’ve been familiar with for a long time. What I did to prepare was I looked at some of Edgar Allen Poe’s stories to try and capture the right tone,” Garst said.
As the final play for the class of 2023, Nevermore is held in high regard for the senior actors along with Garst, but he holds his actors and students in the spotlight when it comes to theater and music. Any student involved with the plays or musicals, Garst encourages them to keep a part of theater and music as a part of their life.
“Whether it’s as an audience member, whether you do community theater, whether you play in a local orchestra, or whether you just listen and attend and enjoy, keeping art, theater and music is a really important thing.” Garst said.
With the final play of 2023, attending this play is a must, for both the students and anybody involved. Nevermore will set the stage for the public from May 4th-7th; till then, you may get to see poe-try in action.
