Run, Antlers, Run

Conditioning for track is a tough transition for many athletes, especially for those who do not play winter sports.

Track athletes can either dread conditioning because it is too early or they think it helps their performance. “I feel dreaded because we have to go early in the mornings. Tuesday and Thursday at 6:45 am,” junior Willie Rush said.

Conditioning is a perfect place to work on confidence and practicing for athletes’ events. “Conditioning is important especially for track having good endurance for not only long distances, but short distances as well,” junior Kayd Matthews said.

Putting in effort even before practices begin is one of the most important things in an athlete’s performance. “I have seen improvement in my performance from the beginning to the end of conditioning,” junior Nolan Groves said.

Working hard, showing up, and having a positive mindset are things that make a huge difference in Elkhorn High’s track athletes and conditioning is just the beginning for a successful season ahead.
