A new social media icon, Gypsy Rose was released from prison on parole on December 28th, 2023. Where currently, she is living the teenage life she never got to experience. Right now, Gypsy has a high social media presence. Some are claiming her to be the new icon, while others strongly disapprove of her past actions. Gypsy has been using her platform and fame to spread awareness of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, which is when someone falsely claims that another person has symptoms of an illness, to deceive others.

From a young age, Gypsy’s mother had her believing that she was very sick. Her mother claimed that Gypsy had many health problems such as Leukemia and Muscular Dystrophy. This was later revealed to be false. Gypsy mentally struggled due to a confined childhood. When Gypsy became aware of her situation, she met her then-boyfriend who would eventually kill her mother.

7 years ago, the infamous case of the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard, Gypsy Rose’s mother, occurred. Many are conflicted on whether or not Gypsy Rose should be considered a good person after the murder of her mother. Her boyfriend at the time of her mother’s death, Nick Godejohn, was the one who killed her mother. Although Gypsy wasn’t involved in the actual murder of her mom, she asked him to perform the act. Gypsy had an ultimatum. Either, she could live on with her Mother’s abuse, or she could escape it.

Many are conflicted on whether or not Gypsy should be considered guilty of the murder of her mother. This is because she didn’t partake in the stabbing of her mom. But, she was at the scene of the crime. Many argue that it was an act of defense. Some also question now if Gypsy is manipulating the story to make others think of her as the true victim. Also, it questioned her mental capacity before her conviction, and people questioned if she had falsified her intelligence. With her recent interviews on talk shows, Gypsy has claimed that she felt sorry for what she did, and she wants to advocate more for safe ways to escape abuse. Putting this all behind her, Gypsy Rose is trying to live a new, normal life.
