You Ain’t Seen Nothing Like the Mighty Flynn

by Chris | April 12, 2024 1:08 pm

Goal after goal, assist after assist, freshman soccer player Molly Flynn continues to lead her team to victory this season. With around 8 goals and multiple assists, Flynn is not done yet.

As a freshman, Flynn has seen many changes from her usual club soccer to the high school game.

“High school is just more aggressive because the girls are bigger and older,” Flynn said. “In club, I feel like sometimes it’s just more technical, skill wise, but I think overall just size is the main difference.”

Despite these variations, Flynn has decided that she will still play on her club team during the off season in order to improve. She has also had to play against her club teammates in high school games, which she finds enjoyable.

“One of my favorite moments was winning against Elkhorn North,” Flynn said. “I feel like that was fun just because I know a lot of girls there so it was just fun to win against them, especially with the school rivalry, as well.”

Another highlight of Flynn’s season so far was scoring her first high school goal. She did so in the Lady Antler’s first game against Hastings.

“It was really exciting, even though it was just an okay team,” Flynn said. “When I scored, I turned around and it was fun because all my teammates were there and it was also the first varsity goal.”

As she got more comfortable with her team and the style of play, Flynn kept on scoring, as well as helping her teammates put the ball in the back of the net. This week, Flynn and her team has been participating in the EMC tournament, and doing well with wins against both Lincoln Northwest, and previously undefeated Blair.

“It was kind of nerve-wracking at first because we all wanted to do well in the tournament, but now that we beat Blair and broke their winning streak, it just kind of gives our team more confidence,” Flynn said. “Hopefully on Friday we can bring that confidence to the game and win.”

This Friday, the Lady Antlers will face #2 Norris in the EMC championship game. Along with other goals, Flynn hopes she and her team can pull off the upset and come out on top.

“I definitely want us to make it to state, but also I hope we can win on Friday because that would be a big win.”
