Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a less popular club at Elkhorn High; the organization recently brought two members to state, with only one competing.

The state attendees were sophomore Victoria Kaipust and freshman Ronna Tu; however, sophomore Carson Deprez contributed to a STAR project the group competed with.

“We did not qualify for nationals this year,” said Kaipust.

Kaipust attended the FCCLA state leadership conference her freshman year, and did qualify.

“This year [the judges] switched over to scoring on a computer, and last year they scored on paper. I think that made it harder for them to be attentive.” Kaipust said.

At the conference, Kaipust and Deprez presented a project about sustainability in transportation.

“Our presentation was about making transportation as sustainable as possible in our community, and we did this mainly by focusing on reducing carbon emissions, by using things like carpooling.” Deprez said.

Kaipust and Deprez both hope to attend the conference once again and place next year.
