Pull Up the Pampers

by Skye Dixon | April 23, 2024 12:58 pm

Diapers are super pricey, and can be a financial burden for some families. The NHS hopes to help ease that burden with a diaper drive designed to collect diapers for needy families who often spend a large chunk of their monthly income on diapers. Finding the right size can also be a very difficult task.

“There is a big issue in Omaha right now in supplying diapers, especially certain sizes because they are very expensive and also very hard to get for some families,” NHS vice president senior Paulina Fomicheva said.

The Elkhorn and Omaha community is trying to come together in order to support the families that are in need. The organization COPE reached out to all Elkhorn public high schools for help on this issue. NHS has taken over this drive, and are hoping to collect as many diapers as they can.

“In the diaper drive we are collecting a bunch of diapers including Pull Ups, pamper, and other baby supplies for underprivileged families across the Omaha metro area including Elkhorn and other areas in Douglas County,” president of NHS senior Kashif Nazmul said.

Finding affordable diapers is a big strength for many families, and finding people to donate them can be a struggle as well. However, the National Honors Society thought of having incentives in order to gain popularity for the drive, and to collect as many diapers as they can.

The National Honor Society is hoping to reach its goal, and is getting closer and closer each day.

“The top four TAs, regardless of grade level, will get Panera bagels and then if the school reaches a certain goal the whole school will get ice cream,” Fomicheva said.
