Volleyball has always been a big part of sophomore Callie Peterson’s life.
“I’ve been playing volleyball since I was five,” Peterson said. “It was part of my mom when she was in college, so it’s just kind of a part of me.”
Peterson is a full time varsity player and her role is very important to the team.
“My role is really just to be there on the block and put the ball in office,” Peterson said.
Not only does volleyball take up a majority of Peterson’s time, but she also takes two AP classes, so she said balancing academics and athletics can be tough. However, she said she has had a positive mindset going into the year.
“For school I hope to focus on my work and not procrastinate like I did last year, but for volleyball I just want to do better than last season because last season was rough,” Peterson said.
Peterson has battled a few injuries this season, but she said she is taking ice baths and using tape to help speed up the healing process.
“I have shin splints right now, and bicep tendonitis in both shoulders, and patella tendonitis,” Peterson said.
Peterson enjoys the social aspect of volleyball as well. Since she also participates in elite club volleyball, she gets to experience different bonds between both her club and school team.
“I love playing with different people and just getting to have that experience of being with different people,” Peterson said.
Peterson said she looks forward to pursuing volleyball in the near future and said she hopes she can continue to play her favorite sport in college.
“I hope to go play in college, preferably D1,” Peterson said.
