Feeding Frenzy

by Skye Dixon | December 13, 2024 10:11 am

Feeding the hungry is something that everyone can partake in and it doesn’t involve much work.

“Feed Nebraska is a ribbon project that Elkhorn High does where we can help people who don’t have food in Nebraska,” business teacher Rachel Barry said .

FBLA has been actively doing lots of different things throughout the year already such as volunteering at the food pantry or raising money for the food pantry. There are a lot of ways students can help people.

With feed Nebraska it is FBLA involved but with the can food drive itself its FBLA, FCCLA and DECA involved.

“Of all the problems in the world hunger is something that we can solve and make an impact in the community,” spanish teacher Jamie Mosby said.

“All the food and money donated are going to the heartland food pantry to give to those who are less fortunate. Also there are some incentives involved with donating,” Barry said.

If students bring more than 20 cans of food you get entered into a raffle for a gift card. 40 cans twice and so every time students get entered there are 3 or 4 gift cards to be won anyways.

Mosby’s TA is leading in the Feed Nebraska food drive with 233 points.

“I actually have been talking up the food drive for the last month before Thanksgiving and giving different suggestions on what to do. It does not take students going to the store and spending money,” Mosby said. “If you go around your neighborhood knocking on doors they would give you cans for the food drive to help the hungry.”

Bringing cans helps not only the people receiving but students can get the feeling of giving and gratitude going into the holiday weeks ahead.

“The ribbon products that are done are to earn ribbons at the state leadership conference and to help the community,” Barry said.
