As the school year starts back after break, many Elkhorn High students have set goals for themselves that they want to achieve based on how the first semester went. Students across the school strive to get better by setting goals for themselves and achieving those goals.
By setting goals, students understand the importance of doing better in school to satisfy themselves.
“Up to this point in the school year it has been pretty good, I understand a lot more things and have figured out a lot of things about high school since freshman year,” sophomore Trey Pacus said. “My grades have been highly improved and my athletics have greatly improved since even the beginning of sophomore year.”
One frequent goal set many students entering the second semester is to achieve honor roll. This can be met by getting a GPA of 3.25 or higher. Although it might not be the number one goal for all students to achieve, honor roll is always something to push for each year.
“All of my classes end the first semester and I get a whole new class in the 2nd semester. The halfway point is like a new start for everyone,” English teacher Chris Jenson said. “I really got to know my first semester students and I missed the first semester students.”
As a reflection of the first semester, many students agree that making honor roll and doing better than the first semester can be easy ways to achieve success and be a successful student.
“My senior classes have met goals and it’s cool to see students who struggle do well knowing they have to have that class to graduate,” Jenson said. “I am one of the barriers that stand in the way for that diploma.”
