Week 4 Recap – Skutt Catholic

Elkhorn traveled to Skutt and lost 45-0

The Elkhorn Antlers ran into a buzzsaw on Friday night as they traveled to Omaha Skutt to play the number 3 ranked Skyhawks losing 45-0.   The Skyhawks used a devastating running game to roll over the Antlers while holding the Antlers 94 yards total offense.

¨We all felt the adrenaline going into the game knowing we will have some tough competition ahead in a solid Skutt team,¨ junior Peyton Turman said.

The Antlers took the opening kickoff and went 3 and out.  It took the Skyhawks only 4 plays to cover 66 yards scoring the first of 3 touchdowns in the 1st quarter.  The Antlers commited 3 motion penalties the next 9 times they lined up offensively to aid a tough Skyhawk defense.  After the 2nd Elkhorn punt of the quarter it would take Skutt only 2 plays to score on a 59 yard run on a dive option keep by quarterback Bennett Turman.  On their next possession the Antlers would pick up a first down before 2 motion penalties sabotaged any hopes of a comeback.  It only took Skutt 2 plays to cover 39 yards and open up a 21-0 lead.

After the Antlers went 3 and out to end the 1st quarter the Elkhorn defense stepped up to force a punt by the Skyhawks, but after 3 plays the Antlers once again punted to the Skyhawks.  This time it took 3 plays for Skutt to score when Turman again went 38 yards on a dive option keep.  Elkhorn then put together a 13 play drive covering 59 yards that died at the 7 yard line.  Skutt ran 18 plays to end the half on a 44 yard field goal by Morgan Finkenbinder to make the half time score 31-0.

¨We have so much stuff we need to get fixed for Bennington after that game,¨  head football coach Dan Fieckert said.

The Skyhawks started the 2nd half with a 12 play drive that would culminate with another Turman touchdown at 6:15 to go in the 3rd quarter that triggered the running clock.  Elkhorn ran only 6 plays in the 2nd half as after a 3 and out Skutt drove the ball on 7 plays to their 6th touchdown of the night making it 45-0.  The Antlers ran the 3 plays in the 4th quarter.  Skutt then ran 12 plays to run out the clock.

¨If this is how we come out against Bennington, we are going to get blown out. We need to step up on offense and help Kayd and Elliot out,¨ junior Willie Rush Said

Skutt is now 3-1 on the season and next plays 0-4 Buena Vista on Friday night.  The Antlers go from playing number 3 ranked Skutt to number 1 ranked Bennington on Friday night in their Homecoming Game.
