To All The Movies I’ve Seen Before

Do not let the title fool you, “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” was great, just predictable(and the book was better).

“To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” is the Netflix movie based on the Jenny Han novel.

By now everyone has heard about the new Netflix movie “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before”. If you have not, I will catch you up. It is a swoony teen romance where a 16-year-old girl, Lara Jean, writes love letters to everyone she has…well…loved before. Of course, for the sake of the plot, the letters get sent out and from there a world of problems begins.

The movie is based on a book by the same name by Jenny Han. In my opinion, the book was a million times better. Even with cute actors, Noah Centineo who plays Peter Kavinsky, the movie just does not reach the same level as the book.

Do not get me wrong, I loved the movie. It just had one fatal flaw, or the lack thereof. None of the characters had personality flaws. That hurt. I loved getting to read a book full of dumb decisions and people saying the wrong things. The characters did not come across the same way without their “bad” qualities.

So, I lied. I have one other problem with this film. The movie was expected. It ended how you think it would, it played out how you thought it would, it was just too easy to guess what was going to happen next. They left a lot of things out in the movie that happened in the book. Believe me, some juicy stuff happened in the book that would have been great on screen.

That being said, I enjoyed the movie. The actors all had good chemistry and the shots were not bad. The main character, Lara Jean, was played by Lana Condor. Lana and Noah, Peter Kavinsky, had great chemistry. Everyone could get on board with their love story. The casting department did a good job.

Warning, this movie leaves some serious cravings to write love letters. Who would not want to write a letter to the one person you like most and have them fall in love with you? “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” sets some seriously unrealistic expectations.

This movie can be appreciated by people of all ages. Everybody loves a good love story, and this movie delivers. I think it is a great thing to watch in your spare time but I would recommend reading the book instead.

I would give this movie a solid 7 out of 10, the book gets a 9 by the way. This is because the movie had characters with good chemistry, but was a few character flaws away from being great. The book gets a 9 because it was cute, drama filled, and had dynamic characters.

Sincerely,

A girl with too much spare time on her hands in order to read the book and watch the movie,

Ally Limley
