Going for it all. That’s the attitude one of the current seniors on the basketball team, Nate Roberts, has going into his last ever State basketball tournament.
Roberts has played varsity basketball for a few years now, by building his skill ever since he was young.
“I’ve been playing probably since kindergarten, but really as long as I can remember,” Roberts said.
On this year’s Antler basketball team, Roberts has found his role in the group throughout the year, and has figured out exactly what he needs to do to help the team the most.
“My role is to come in and play good defense and also rebound, but mainly defense,” Roberts said.
In order to play his part, Roberts has to get into the right mindset before each game.
“I just focus on the things that I can control,” Roberts said. “I feel like you can have an off scoring night, but defense, rebounds, and hustle plays are things you can control.”
As much as basketball may seem to revolve around the games and practices, there are other fun parts that can lead to special memories for the players.
“My favorite memory is going to North Platte my sophomore year for the holiday tournament,” Roberts said. “Spending the night out there in a hotel was super fun to do with the team.”
This year, the Antlers faced Gross Catholic in their district final and beat them to officially make it to State. This game meant a lot to Roberts, during his season full of lasts.
“Obviously I was super excited, and it means a little more being my senior year,” Roberts said. “It’s our one last chance here to just go for it all.”
Now that his season is coming to a close, Roberts and his team are ready to knock their next opponent out and move on to the next round of State.
“We want to go for it all and win our last game,” Roberts said. “I think starting this first round meeting Skutt after they got us in the regular season will be a redemption game.”
