Sophomores Charley Weeder (left), Bailey Ferguson (middle), and Parker Steskal (right), throw themselves in celebrating a point scored against Elkhorn South. Because of Elkhorn South's Class A status, the Antlers struggled to score very many big points. This is why even Coach Guthard was seen pumping her fist in exhalation from outside the court.

The Antlers battled the Storm in a pre-season match
Elkhorn High seniors Addie Hunt and Macie Burson prepare to receive a serve from the Elkhorn South volleyball team. Burson, as a setter, prepared herself to run towards the net while Hunt was loaded and ready to pass any short serves that may have dropped in front of her. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Players on the Elkhorn High bench cheer in excitement for their teammates on the court. Even Callie Guthard, head coach of Elkhorn’s volleyball team, celebrated her varsity players with words of encouragement. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Sophomore Bailey Ferguson aims her arm as she serves the ball towards Elkhorn South’s side of the net. This was Ferguson’s second time playing in the annual jamboree against South, since the now-sophomore played at the varsity level last year as a freshman as well. (Lucy Edwards[1])

(Lucy Edwards[1])
Sophomore Parker Steskal waits to receive a ball flying just over her head. She moved to position her arms under the ball and prepared to freeze her platform to get the most control over the ball. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Freshman Kaylynn Mailloux and sophomore Charley Weeder stand in identical positions while awaiting the serve from South’s side of the net. The front row players were preparing to transition off the net to get the best shot at a hit once the ball was passed. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Mailloux and Weeder share an excited look as they are between points during the match against Elkhorn South. Both players experienced their first time playing on the varsity court this past Monday at the jamboree. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Elkhorn players are seen feeling frustrated when they are not quick enough to receive the ball as it is about to land on their side of the court. Senior setter Burson looked on as Mailloux and Ferguson laid out on the floor for a split second before the ball dropped. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Sophomore Callie Peterson draws her arm back before firing the ball over to Elkhorn South’s team. Her coach, Guthard, patiently had her eyes trained on the other side so as not to add extra pressure to her player as she served. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Senior setter Lauren Fast jumps in the air to meet a flying ball that would have landed in the deep corner. As a setter, Fast had to both serve receive as well as prepare to run up and set the ball up to a hitter on the chance someone else would have passed it. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Ferguson holds her platform as she anticipates the perfect spot to position her body on the court. Senior Addie Hunt still had her arms frozen in the blocking position at the net. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Middle-hitting senior Addie Hunt reaches for the volleyball midair right before she hurls it down on the other side of the net. Senior Ava McCaslin and sophomore Bailey Ferguson rushed in to cover for Hunt in case her hit was blocked by South’s players. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Senior Lauren Fast prepares to make a desperate dig as she loads into a low stance with her arms positioned to get the ball up. A closer look revealed the ball was springing the net back, and Fast was in the perfect spot to receive the tough pass. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Bench players react to a play with mixed emotions. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Sophomore Kaiya Gilbert prepares to pass a high ball that is about to fall on top of her platform. Players Weeder, Hunt, and Ferguson all looked upwards as they watched the ball fall towards Gilbert’s awaiting arms. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Senior Addie Hunt makes a last-ditch effort to get the ball across the net as she aims her first to punch it. This was a legal play since it is okay to use any part of a player’s body in order to get the ball over. This rule only prohibits kicking. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Freshmen volleyball players gather in the stands at Elkhorn South to support their varsity team. Emmy Hart and Kelsie Holder posed together for a picture. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Sophomore Kaiya Gilbert flattens her palm right before she sends the ball flying over the net. Coach Guthard watched on to see if Gilbert’s serve would land in the zone her coach asked for. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Seniors Becca Leise and Ameri Eucket and junior Ava Connelly pose in the student section. Antler students came to cheer for their varsity volleyball team in the first scrimmage of the year. (Lucy Edwards[1])
Both players on the court and the bench celebrate as they emphatically cheer each other on. The coaches on the bench did not appear to show as much emotion as they calmly continued to take down stats in their notebooks. (Lucy Edwards[1])
