Bring This Club to Light

Many students have heard of the club FCCLA, but few actually understand its purpose.  FCCLA stands for Family Community Career Leaders of America, and it focuses on community and service while giving students the chance to explore careers. However, last year, only about 30 students were affiliated with it.

“There’re so many students that don’t know what it is, and it’s more so just a question for people on what kind of club this is.” sophomore Gavin Vazquez said.

Vazquez is one of many students who are not involved with the club and do not know what the club is for. Although the student body is not familiar with what the club does, those involved can choose to compete in events called Students Taking Action with Recognition, also known as STAR.

“One big thing is STAR, which is a competitive event. You have to work to prepare for it, and it normally requires a lot of writing and research,” president of FCCLA Victoria Kaipust said.

Although the club is concealed, anyone can join. Freshmen all the way to seniors are all welcome to join this group.

“Participation in our club shouldn’t be exclusive,” Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Heather Artz said. “I’m excited for its growth and I’m excited to get more people involved.”

Some may think this club is stressful and a huge commitment, however it is said to be more fun and exciting then it seems.

“It’s fun; it’s not as stressful as people think it is, and especially when you can work with a team. You can get together with a group of people and go compete about something that you’re interested in” Artz said.

FCCLA is important for students to join because it opens doors for the future.

“Service is incredibly important for students and for our school to go out and impact our community and shape our community. It not only helps our community, but it helps students learn more about our community, to learn about giving back to others” Artz said.

This group is important to EHS and for students to join so it should be considered to all.

This is a great group to join to get more involved.

“It’s important because it’s a good organization to learn more about yourself and your community and how you can help,” Kaipust said.  “It’s a good leadership club, and it offers a lot of opportunities.”
