Elkhorn closed the regular season Oct. 25 in Norris with a 42-20 loss at Norris. While not the ending to the season the team was hoping for the focus has shifted to the playoffs, where the team will face Elkhorn North.
In the playoffs there are a lot of familiar faces as seven of the nine teams the Antlers faced this season earned a trip to the post season. The Antlers and Wolves won’t need a lengthy scouting report to know the names, numbers, and faces of the opponent. This matchup was played out on the field on Oct. 4th, with the final score of 17-14 and the Antlers walking away victorious.
The scene for this game will be a little different then the October bout as the 7-2 Wolves will be the home team against the 4-5 Antlers. In the last contest the usually dominant offense of the Wolves had the door slammed on there running attack as they finished with a total of one rushing yard.
On the offensive side for the Antlers, the 17 points don’t tell the complete story as in that game not one but two school records were broken. Kayd Matthews broke his own record for completions in a game with 24 and Peyton Turman set the single game reception record gathering in 13 passes thrown his way.
Not only was the passing game on the rushing attack was also potent amassing a total of 172. No matter who wins, it’s sure to be a close game and the winner will get a confidence boost that could lead to a deep run in the playoffs.
