Everyone who plays a sport has a valid reason to go out for it. Most students focus on just the positive or just the negative, but why not bring them together and focus on the good and bad parts of their sports? Winter activities are especially hard due to the snow, ice, and even cold, windy days.

Girls and boys wrestling can be a struggle due to all the weight loss athletes have to do, but all that doesn’t matter is that you do that with people they love.

“The best part is finding a place where you belong with people who enjoy the things that you do,” senior Diesel said.

Wrestling can be stressful for those who have to worry about their weight class constantly.

“The worst part is cutting weight,” senior Eric Sutton said.

Bowling can also be a hard sport because of the consistency of the ball going down the lane through the pins to hit a strike or spare.

“The best part for me is missing school for bowling,” senior Kayden Miller said.

While missing school is fun for most, student-athletes still have to work hard in and out of school while also playing their sport to the best of their ability.

“The worst part about bowling is trying to adjust to the lanes and if they are super oily or not,” senior Kynzie Casteel said.

Girls and boys basketball can truly be the best sport to meet the best people or could be one of the worst due to all the running and conditioning they have.

“The best part of basketball for me is the relationships and friendships that we make during the season,” junior Maggie Niles said.

Even though having a good relationship with your teammates is important and makes the sport fun, it can be discouraging when athletes don’t perform how they want to.

“The worst part about basketball is losing games,” sophomore Peter Howard said.

Swim has its ups and downs as well, because of all the morning practices or just spending time with teammates from other schools.

“The worst part for me is the morning practices,” freshman Henry Edwards said.

Through hard practice, bonding with teammates makes it all worth it.

“My favorite part of swimming is probably my teammates, and that they are from different schools,” senior Claire Polly said.

The highs and lows of sports can be overwhelming, but student-athletes know how to handle themselves and get around the negatives. Though there are dismissive thoughts about athletics, it’s all worth it to do what the athlete loves.
