The Collection released their new album, Entropy, Oct. 5. They recently started touring.

The Collection is an emerging band from Greensboro, North Carolina that recently has been gaining popularity. They describe themselves as orchestral folk and are currently on tour. The band includes David Wimbish, Joshua Ling, Graham Dickey, Hayden Cooke, Sarah McCoy, and Joshua Linhart (Darren Miles is joining the band for the Entropy tour).

So far they have three albums with the newest, Entropy, having been released on October 5th. Entropy took over a year to finish and includes 10 songs. David Wimbish, the band’s creator, and leading man said, “ The album took about 1.5 years from when I started writing it to it being out. Though that sounds long, it’s actually the shortest record process we’ve had so far”.

Entropy includes many songs about pain, doubt, and happiness. This is no surprise seeing as the basis for the album comes from some very difficult times in Wimbish’s life.

Wimbish had just split from his wife, who had been in the band, when suddenly their car was totaled and they were unexpectedly forced to move out of their house. In this time, a lot of his friends moved across the country and many band members found other interests.

“The album was written over the next year as I tried to find solidity and hope within the pain and change. I think I eventually did!” said Wimbish.

The new album is very similar yet different from the ones before it. The songs have the same feel to them and the lyrics are still meaningful and emotional, but the songs generally have a more passionate feel than those preceding them.

“Beautiful Life” and “Becoming My Own Home” are arguably the most popular songs on the album, and it’s easy to see why. The lyrics talk about losing what you love and going through the hardships of life, but pushing through and finding happiness anyways. The deep lyrics throughout the album connect to people all over!

I could not possibly choose a favorite song off of the album, so instead, I’ll share a few of my favorite moments from it. In “Left of Your Joy”, the music compliments the lyrics perfectly. It builds with the chorus and slows to fit the changing of lyrics. The intro to “I Want to Love You” is by far the best intro to any of the songs on the album. “Beautiful Life” is just all around great with powerful lyrics. “Bandages of Time” is slower but still remarkably beautiful. And of course, in “Wild Heart”, the music in it captures your attention and never lets it go.

Every time I listen to Entropy and its songs I find something new to love about it! The moments I mentioned above are amazing, but there are many amazing moments I did not. You only have to listen to the album once to know it’s truly phenomenal.

To end, here’s a quote from Wimbish about the making of Entropy and the experiences that contributed to it, “Through that process, I found the best period of my life in a new city, and with a new spiritual life, and a new energy in the band”.

Special thanks to David Wimbish for letting me interview him!
