Antlers lose on the road at Plattsmouth

While trying to get over a loss at home to Gretna, the Antler football team took a road trip to Plattsmouth with hope of a win on the enemy’s turf. Instead, Elkhorn took a tough loss at the hands of the Blue Devils, losing 28-19 and dropping the team’s record to 0-2 on the season. Plattsmouth improved to 2-0 on the season.

Against Plattsmouth, Elkhorn improved its passing game completing 12 passes on 18 attempts which led to a total of 196 passing yards by junior quarterback Baron Clevenger. The rushing attack looked explosive with a total of two touchdowns and 219 yards on 38 attempts, an average of 5.8 yards per carry.

Senior offensive lineman Ethan Smith said the team is focusing on the things it is doing well, like running the ball.

“Elkhorn is the leading rushing team in Class B,” Smith said. “We have not had a negative rushing play, and we have not allowed a sack all year.”

The leading receiver for the team is junior Matthew Ott with an average of 80.5 yards a game and one touchdown. Senior Camden Carle averages 60 yards a game and has two touchdowns.

Elkhorn had some explosive plays against the the Blue Devils and some players may have had some outstanding performances, but it was not enough to take down undefeated Plattsmouth.

Elkhorn will be on the road against Gretna East on September 12th while Plattsmouth will be on the road against Skutt Catholic. The Antlers will be looking for its first win of the season.
