Pandemic Prom

Elkhorn High School announced plans to host a prom in April.

A year ago, the COVID-19 pandemic sent the world into lock-down. Students left school, and wouldn’t return until the following August. This, of course, meant canceling Elkhorn’s prom of 2020.

But this year, things are different. On March 9th, students received an email detailing plans to host a prom in 2021, despite the ongoing pandemic. With vaccination rates increasing and the weather getting nicer, Elkhorn will have prom from 8:00-10:00PM on Saturday, April 24th (with a backup date on May 8th.)

Of course, measures will be taken to ensure that students are safe and to minimize the risk of spreading the virus. Firstly, prom will be held outside on the football field. Masks are required, and the traditional post-prom celebration has been cancelled. Although, the email said that they are working to organize some post-prom activities outside along the track.

As usual, prom will be open to both juniors and seniors. Students will be able to bring outside guests, provided they fill out a guest form which has not yet been released. Additionally, the EHS commons will be decorated by the Junior Class Board and open for photos on the day of prom from 2:00-5:00PM.

Mrs. Thompson sent out an email explaining how to buy books. There is a link to a Google Form you can fill out, and then you will pay Mrs. Schmidt in the front office $10/ticket. Your money should be in exact change and in a marked envelope.

As more information is released, it will be sent to your student email accounts, so keep your eyes peeled for that!
