When you have one of the best goal scorers in Nebraska girls soccer history, you lean on them. Junior Skyler Heinrich did what she has done 99 other times in her high school career. She scored her 100th career goal in the 38th minute of the second half to help lead the Antlers to a 1-0 quarter-final win over Columbus Scotus.

Despite being covered by many defenders much of the night, Heinrich was able to gain separation.

“I cut in, saw the defender was a little behind, and took a cut in front of her, pulling the goalie out too far, so I was able to take the ball to the right of her,” Hienrich told the Omaha World-Herald after the game.

Heinrich was able to score her 29th goal of the season and 100th goal of her career giving the Antlers a 1-0 lead that would hold for the win.

While the Shamrock’s took the girls down last year in the semi finals of the state tournament it was thanks to new additions on the team that the Antlers were able to reverse the result this year.

“With Skyler, Sinai, and Hannah up top they’re all dynamic and are able to create their own space,” Coach Troy Stoller told the Omaha World-Herald following the game.

It’s said that offense wins games but defense wins championships and with the well rounded defense played by the Antlers they may have a state championship in their future. Defenders sophomore Lexi Thomsen and juniors Bailey Kehrli, Alli Metschke, and Alicia Wixon helped keep the Shamrocks out of the goal.

“Our back four, especially our two center backs, they were solid, the best I’ve seen them play,” Coach Stoller said.

Elkhorn will take on Omaha Mercy at 9:00am on Saturday at Morrison Stadium.
