As per tradition, Antler football starts with the annual Red/White scrimmage on Friday, August 20th. At this year’s scrimmage, Jordan Thole for the white team suffered an ankle injury, ending his season.

“No matter how far we get he’s not coming back,” Teammate Jackson Roberts said. “We already took his equipment.” Roberts also went on to say he has never seen someone so out of it.

The final score for the Red/White scrimmage was 66 Antler Red, 0 Antler White.

Moving on to the first game of the year, Friday, August 27th. After a half-hour lightning delay, the Antlers got their first win of the season 20-18 against Norris under new head coach Dan Feickert. Quarter 1 ends off with a 7-0 With a run by Hayden Stec. Connor Hunt made a remarkable 80-yard pass to Dane Peterson to make the score 14-0. Norris came back right after, but Mikey Hart blocked a 24-yard extra-point attempt. The Antlers then hit a perfect 24-yard field goal to end the half. Unfortunately, on the final play before the field goal, Braylen Johnson was injured but ran for 85 yards on 10 carries before leaving the game. In the second half, Norris gets 2 more touchdowns and Mikey Hart blocks another extra point attempt. After Norris punted the ball, the Antlers had the ball on their 10-yard line with 6:23 left in the game. Antlers proceed to drive the ball 87 yards up the line to the Norris 3 yard. With seconds left Cole Houck kicked his second field goal of the game to give the Antlers the victory 20-18.

Most recently, The Antlers hosted a game against Roncalli on Friday, September 3rd. This game was a “yellow-out” in support of EHS freshman Elsie Rochholz, who is battling stage 4 sarcoma. Both Elkhorn and Roncalli participated in creating an atmosphere of hope and collaboration.

The game itself ended with a score of 34 Elkhorn, 7 Roncalli. Elkhorn scored once in the first half, with a 31 yard run by Connor Hunt, and missed the PAT attempt, which brought the score to 6 Elkhorn, 0 Roncalli. In the second half, the game turned quickly in favor of the Antlers, with Elkhorn racking up three touchdowns in the third quarter. Dane Peterson recovered a fumble for an eighteen-yard run right at the beginning of the quarter; Cole Houck proceeded to make an extra point kick, the Antlers were now up by 13.

In the fourth quarter, the Antlers scored again with a 15 yard run by Mikey Hart, and a successful extra point attempt by Houck. The Crimson Pride ended the game with their first touchdown with 6:27 remaining in the fourth quarter, and a successful extra point by Brady McGill. The game ended with a score of 34 Elkhorn, 7 Roncalli, leaving Elkhorn 2-0 and Roncalli 0-2.

Friday’s game was also the first time the Antler Express had been permitted to fly a camera drone during warmups and half-time. This allowed never-before-possible aerial footage of the Elkhorn stadium, an awesome tool to capture the sea of yellow in both the home and visitor stands.
