Over this past decade, rap music has transformed completely, and new artists are rising. Twenty-seven year old Caleb Zackery Toliver, famously known as Don Toliver, has seen great success over the past three years.

His debut mixtape, “Donny Womack”, released just in 2018. The album is just under 39 minutes long and includes 13 songs, one of my favorites being “Diva”. He was still not very well known, but many people first heard him from Travis Scott’s song “CANT SAY” on “Astroworld”. After his appearance, Scott signed him to Cactus Jack Records.

From there, he collaborated with artists such as Sheck Wes, Pop Smoke, Quavo, Offset, and Chase B to create the compilation album by Travis Scott, “JACKBOYS”. The seven song album has no bad songs in my opinion, and I listen to it almost daily.

Shortly after “JACKBOYS” dropped, he released the studio album ‘Heaven or Hell”. This includes songs from “JACKBOYS” and is a very well put together album. “Can’t Feel My Legs” and “Had Enough” feat. Quavo and Offset are my favorites. However, the songs “No Idea” and “After Party” became incredibly popular after going viral on Tik Tok. Many people know of him from these songs in particular.

On October 8th of this year, Toliver released his second studio album “Life of a DON” following the success of “Heaven or Hell”. Not surprisingly, the album was a hit and reached Apple Music’s number one spot. This album includes sixteen songs and features artists such as Travis Scott, Kali Uchis, HVN, and other rising artists Baby Keem and SoFaygo. Some of my personal favorite songs are “XSCAPE”, ”5X”, ”Way Bigger”, and ”You” feat. Travis Scott. Personally, I think this album’s production is outstanding and the beats are incredible. All the songs compliment each other well.

According to Complex.com, “Life of a DON” sold 72,000 album units in its first week, a strong improvement over the 44,000 “Heaven or Hell” sold in its first week. Toliver is finally getting the recognition he deserves and fans can not wait for more projects in the future from him.
