Antler of the Week – Jocey Logue
Jocey Logue stars in the fall musical as Wednesday Addams and is the latest Antler of the Week.
Senior Jocey Logue acted as Wednesday Addams, one of the lead roles, in The Addams Family, Elkhorn’s fall musical which ran October 28th, 29th, and 30th. Logue has had an knack for theatre since elementary school and was excited to expand her horizons in the school theatre.
“I’m so excited for everyone to see the musical all come together, and it is always fun to see the performance and the people using the props we spend so much time on,” Logue said.
Logue did not get her knack for acting on her own. She was inspired by her parents to explore the career of theatre, just as they did.
“My parents were very musical theatre people in high school and went into college for it,” Logue said. “My mom works at the Rose Theatre, and she’s always pushed me and encouraged me to go and try it.”
Logue has played all sorts of roles throughout her high school career. Last year, in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Logue played Linus. In Into the Woods, she played a double-casted role as Rapunzel. She is also involved in marching band, one act, and choir.
For The Addams Family, Logue and her cast mates spent an immense amount of time preparing for the big day.
“With the musical coming up, we are here every day after school till almost 10:00 p.m.. I would say in the range of 40 to 60 hours a week we spend working on the musical,” Logue said.
Logue’s determination and performance as a senior are not just loved by her directors and family but by the underclassmen and her friends as well.
“I hear a lot of underclassmen say how she’s really good,” senior Danah Alounk said. “As a senior, it’s really important to keep a positive attitude at rehearsal and make the underclassmen feel included. Jocey does a really good job at this; she’s always talking to people and making connections with cast members. Jocey makes me a better actor. She isn’t afraid to go all out, so it makes me not afraid as well.”
Choir teacher and musical director Abby Thompson believed that Wednesday Addams was a good fit for Logue.
“Jocey really fits the characterization of Wednesday really well; it definitely fits her vocal range. She portrays the role very well with the amount of effort that she puts into it,” Thompson said. “Jocey brings a really great energy. I love how she is always really enthusiastic.”
