The Antler girls soccer team is off to a great start. The girls have been working together as a team and are eager for more wins.
“I am looking forward to winning a whole bunch of games and making it to state again because I think we have a good team to go that far this year,” senior Olivia Thompson said.
The EMC conference tournament began April 20 and the Antlers avenged the team’s only loss of the season, a 1-0 loss to Bennington in the fourth game of the season, by beating the Badgers 4-1. The Antlers will take a seven-game winning streak into tonight’s EMC championship game at top-seeded Blair.
“The hardest teams we play are Blair and Bennington because they have good midfielders and have speed,” junior Lulu Larry said.
The team said it knew it had a chance for a great season when they beat defending state champion Gretna East 2-1 in the first game of the season.
“Everyone was shocked, but it felt good to beat them,” Thompson said.
Soccer speaks to each of these girls differently and that’s why they continue to play the game.
“I just love meeting new people on the team and rebuilding chemistry from past seasons,” junior Molly Flynn said.
The season is in its final stretch and the girls said they plan to make the best of the rest of the season.
“We are all just aiming towards the same goal, to win and have fun, and especially making it to state,” Flynn said.
