Beyond the Stage

Coachella 2026 sparked major debate after Justin Bieber’s headlining performance left fans divided, with some calling it “lazy” and others praising it as creative and meaningful.

Bieber, who reportedly earned millions from the show, delivered a set that relied on old YouTube clips with a low-energy style performance, compared to how he performed previously. He also performed parts of the set from a computer setup, which some reports say was necessary because he doesn’t fully own the rights to portions of his music catalog, limiting how he could present certain songs live.

Critics quickly took to it social media, arguing the performance lacked effort, and did not meet the expectations for a major festival headliner. Some pointed out that he sang along with pre-recorded videos and interacted less with the crowd than other performers.

“The difference in performance quality is insane,” one viewer wrote online, showing frustration about how they expected a more high-energy show.

However, not everyone agreed. Supporters of Bieber said the performance was intentionally simple and focused on emotion rather than a visually impressive show. Many fans described it as nostalgic, explaining how he revisited his early career by singing with videos of his younger self.

Music critics also noted that the performance was Bieber’s return to the stage after several years away, adding deeper meaning to the thoughtful tone he had.

The mixed reactions have continued to spread online, turning his performances into one of the most popular sets of the festival this year.

Whether seen as lazy or brilliant, Bieber’s set has clearly had lasting significance.
